- CHECK OUT BATTLEFRONT 2 CAMPAIGNER, ELIZA REBEIRO'S, LIVES NOT KNIVES CAMPAIGN
Friends and family members have died because of gun and knife crime. I want young people to STOP carrying weapons and think about what else is out there, apart from joining a gang. I’m using what I know best – design - to fight the negative gangster image and I want to inspire others to do something positive too. Everyone can use what they have to do something.

Dear Alex Rose my name is sophie and i am 12 years old. i go to deptford green school in new cross. In my citizenship lesson we are currently learning about crime cased by youths. i am writing to ask you to talk to our school about your experiences with violence. it would also be encouraging if you could attend the assembly with one of your fellow campaigners.i believe that violence gone to far. outside my school a man was shot after an argument and died. the street was cornered of and we had to go the long way round to get in to the front gates. i myself am in a small "gang" but we mostly terrorise our crew. unfortunately my cousin was beaten to a pulp, just for calling out to some girl they didnt even know. he was in hospital for a week.they call themselves the "roundabout crew". this was when it came to me that the violence that many youths would call fun is actually distress to others. many have not got a clue about what is going on in todays lives.this to me shows that yobs have a very low self-esteem. i know people my self who was sent to prison at a young age. please could you do me and my fellow class mates the honour of doing a speech for us in our assembly. we will be awaiting your reply at Deptford Green School Amersham Vale New Cross London SE14 6LQ thank you yours faithfully sophie collins and deptford green

In my recent Citizenship lesson we have been discussing the issue of gangs and violence to do with young people. Looking at reconstuction of the types of insedence that occur on our streets makes us feel more powered to change our community. Looking at you Video has inspired soo many people in our school to spread the news of anti gun and knife crime . We would be very grateful if you could attend our school for a couple of hours to share your story and give us advice on how to aviod this negative path. By Lucy Stuber from Deptford Green.

Dear Alex Rose, My name is Ola and I am a thirteen year old student who currently attends Deptford Green secondary school. We have recently been learning about Violence and gangs in school and I am writing to tell you about my ideas to improve violence and street crime around Deptford. The amounts of deaths created about gangs are outrageous and I think the media plays a big part in this. They portray too many negative views using film, billboards, adverts, games and so on. The problem with the media and entertainment industries is that they glamorise the “Gangster” lifestyle and make it seem cool. Yong people then aspire to be like this and think that is how they are supposed to act. The media are to blame. We need to let the media know what they are doing as they are influencing youths to do the bad things that they are seeing on TV. We are thinking of writing to various music stations telling them that what they are doing is wrong whether they know it or not. But the media is not the only thing; young children also turn to violence if they have a low self-esteem. How you feel about yourself decides what kind of person you’ll be. We need to teach youths how to carry themselves with confidence but not arrogance because if you let people know that you are weak, they will see you as an easy target or prey. Low self-esteem is mostly to do with family background and the way children are brought up. For example, a child could have been treated like nothing while they were growing up. This can be stopped by building Counselling centres for young children who don’t feel good about themselves to help their confidence rise. Violence and crime is the epitome of a bad life, think of it this way, innocent people are getting killed and injured. People mourning for their lost children. Youths choosing the wrong path of life are going to realise too late unless we can make a difference. Now! Yours faithfully, Ola Otun
