Zuhal Sultan
I've heard so much positive feedback from lots of people explaining how listening to live music have given them big hopes for a better future, therefore their mindset started changing and that's exactly what we really need; bad news, explosions, dead people, etc. is all that we hear and see in the media here in Iraq.
I’m campaigning to set up the National Youth Orchestra of Iraq. I have found lots of young people who want to get involved, but I need help finding web-tutors for each of my orchestra members, as we don’t have enough music teachers in Iraq. I want to put on annual summer schools where the orchestra gets to rehearse and then we hope to tour around our country and abroad.
- Putting on my recital at the Wigmore Hall
- Being interviewed on Front Row and for the World Service
- Being interviewed by The Times
- Getting so much positive feedback from YOU
- Contact me if you’d like to web-tutor any of the orchestra members
- Contact me if you think you can help me set up a charity
- Send me your comments and words of support

it's great to see that other young people want to create such amazing things like youth orchestra. these days it's like no one wants to hear anything pass their radios, and lets face it most songs on the radio all soundt he same. not only does this give other young people a chance to explore new stretches of music and could get them wanting to learn an instrument themselves. I'll use myself as an example, I've been playing Clarinet since i was 9 I am now 17 and wishing to go further in a career of music, and the reason I started playing Clarinet was due to seeing the Proms on TV by pure chance. Now if that was an adult orchestra inspiring 1 young person, imagine how many a youth orchestra could inspire. an amazing campaign =]

A wonderful project!!! I'm just back from a four months time as a violin teacher in the system of children's and youth's orchestras in Venezuela, where I worked with the young violinists of the orchetras. Perhaps you could find some help and some good advice of this excellent system which just exists since about 30 years. If I can help you in this project, please contact me. I'm also interested in regularly informations of your project and its developpement. greetings from Germany Angelika Braumann

Sounds like a great project and one which I am sure will send out positive ripples in every direction. Best of luck.

Good luck Zuhal. You probably know about the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela and its conductor Gustavo Dudamel - google the names if you don't. The circumstances may be different but the spirit behind the project sounds equally strong. Go for it!

Zuhal, I wish you all the best on setting this life changing experience up for young people in Iraq. I know how much goes into setting an orchestra up from scratch, but with perseverance the fruits will be great.
