There are 770,000 legally defined disabled children living in the UK. In a government survey 48% of those children under 15 are living in unsuitable accommodation and conditions. Coupled with those figures are that 55% of families with a special needs child are below the poverty line. With the emotional strain and extra living costs that comes with living with a disabled child, a financial burden adds unnecessary pressure. Whilst disabled children may look physically different they are still individuals who deserve the right to a good quality life. If you dare, take a moment to think about what it would be like to think and act differently to others, be stared at, a social outcast, and living without the care you need. Care.
